America's Birthplace of Motorcycling Road Racing, Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The first race at the newly constructed Indianapolis track was the "National Motorcycle Race Meet" in 1909. Erwin George ‘Cannonball’ Baker, an early enthusiast of motorized bicycles, purchased a 1908 Indian and won the first and last motorcycle race held at the Brickyard in nearly a century.
Motorcycles returned to Indianapolis on April, 2008 when American, Nicky Hayden, 2006 MotoGP World Champion was the first to pilot a motorcycle around IMS on a 1909 Indian similar to Erwin Baker's displayed at the IMS Hall of Fame Museum. Report on Indy. The Inaugural Indianapolis MotoGP was held September 12 - 14, 2008.
