America's Birthplace of Motorcycling Road Racing Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The first race at the newly constructed Indianapolis track was the "National Motorcycle Race Meet" in 1909. Erwin George ‘Cannonball’ Baker, an early enthusiast of motorized bicycles, purchased a 1908 Indian and won the first and last motorcycle race held at the Brickyard.
Finally, motorcycle racing returns to Indianapolis on September 12 – 14, 2008. American, Nicky Hayden, 2006 MotoGP World Champion, is the first to pilot a motorcycle around IMS in nearly a century. Most fittingly, that first lap in April 2008 was on a 1909 Indian similar to the race winning bike ridden by Erwin Baker and on display in the IMS Hall of Fame Museum. Report on Indy.
David M. Gross
Creative Director, Ducati Motor Holding, Bologna Italy. Author of the memoir, Fast Company. "John Rossi is creating the most dynamic program of events in sport motorcycling. From participation in the first ever Motogiro America in Monterey, California this July to his VIP infield chalet at the Inaugural Indianapolis MotoG, VivaDUCATI offers Ducati fans a comprehensive and exciting introduction to the world of high performance racing and riding."
Erik Buell
Founder and Chief Technical Director Buell Motorcycles, USA. “I am delighted to see MotoGP at the US track with the most heritage of all. Since I started my company building F1 GP motorcycles, and since we are America's sportbike brand from the Midwest, it'll be cool for my guys to go. There is a lot more sport bike attitude and capability in the US than sometimes people from overseas recognize!”
